The First Rain
As the first rain of wet season approaches after months of dry weather, the village prepares together with practiced ease, celebrates the rain's arrival with joy, and emerges to enjoy the fresh clean aftermath.

Hot Afternoon
Ñico pushes his vegetable cart slowly across the square. So hot! He wipes his forehead with his red handkerchief. At the store, Ramón wipes his brow too. They nod hello, both moving like honey in the heavy, heavy heat.

Ñico
Generous farmer, community pillar · Pig
Ñico is the heart of Veguitas — a gentle pig who tends the village garden and always has something fresh to share. Patient and warm, he believes the best things grow slowly. Whether he's harvesting mangoes or lending a hand to a neighbor, Ñico makes everyone around him feel at home.

The Dry Days
The village waits. The fountain barely trickles. Dust coats the cobblestones like a blanket. The flower beds droop, thirsty. Even the mighty ceiba tree seems tired. Everything has been waiting, waiting, waiting for the rain to come.

Everything Slow
The heat shimmers above the stones, making everything wiggle. A little lizard darts into the shade. A bright hibiscus flower hangs its head. On her branch, Lila fans herself with a big green leaf. Phew! Even hummingbirds need to rest in this heat.

Lila
Artistic dreamer, beauty seeker · Hummingbird
Lila is a tiny hummingbird with a big imagination. She paints the world around her — flowers, sunsets, even puddles after the rain become her canvas. Quiet and thoughtful, Lila notices the small beautiful things that everyone else misses, and she loves sharing those moments through her art.

Something Changes
Wait! Ñico feels something different in the air. Ramón feels it too. They both look up at the same time. Dark clouds gather on the horizon like a gray-blue blanket. The two friends smile at each other. They know this feeling! Rain is coming!

Ramón
Young shopkeeper, village social hub · Cuban Brown Anole
Ramón just took over the village general store and he's determined to prove he's got what it takes. This young brown anole with the oversized spectacles and the sharpest tongue in Veguitas turns every transaction into a performance — but behind all the bravado, he'd give you the last bag of rice off his shelf and swear he was just clearing inventory.

The Wind Wakes
Whoooosh! The first real wind sweeps through Veguitas! Leaves swirl up, up, up into the air. Laundry snaps and dances on the clotheslines. Dust kicks up from the cobblestones. Lila's feathers ruffle. Everything feels cooler. The whole village is waking up!

Tía Paloma Knows
On her porch, Tía Paloma feels the wind change. She looks at the sky and nods with a gentle smile. She has seen many, many first rains. Calmly, kindly, she begins gathering her plants and cushions inside. She knows exactly what to do.

Tía Paloma
Village elder, storyteller, gentle wisdom keeper · White-crowned Pigeon
Tía Paloma is the village elder — a graceful white-crowned pigeon who carries the stories of Veguitas in her heart. She watches over the younger villagers with a gentle eye, offering quiet wisdom when they need it most. Her cozy home is always open, and there's always room on her porch for one more.
The story deepens…

Everyone Prepares
Now the whole village moves together! Ramón closes his colorful shutters — clack, clack! Ñico covers his vegetables with canvas cloth. Lila zooms to shelter with her sketchbook tucked tight. Everyone knows just what to do. They have danced this dance before! The wind grows stronger.

Coco Secures Workshop
Coco scrambles through his wonderfully chaotic workshop, scooping up delicate clockwork pieces and half-assembled contraptions into his arms. He drapes oilcloth over his precious workbenches and wrestles the heavy wooden shutters closed, but a sudden gust catches his oversized brass goggles and sends them tumbling through the air — he leaps with surprising grace, snatching them mid-flight with a triumphant ribbit and a self-amused shake of his spotted head.

Under the Awnings
Safe under the covered porches, everyone watches the sky. Ñico and Ramón stand together under the store awning. Lila perches on Tía Paloma's railing. The sky grows dark. Plip! Plop! The first big drops begin to fall. Everyone watches with respect and wonder.

First Drops
Each raindrop hits the dusty stones — splat! — making a tiny puff of dust. Splash by splash, the dry world begins to darken. Wet spots spread like little puddles of ink. The characters watch, their eyes wide. The rain is arriving. Here it comes!

The Rain Falls
And then — the rain! Beautiful sheets of water fall from the sky. Thunder rumbles like a gentle giant. Lightning flickers in the distance, lighting up the clouds. The cobblestones shine. Puddles form and grow. From their shelters, everyone watches in awe. How beautiful! How powerful! How perfect!
As the day unfolds…

Coco
Inventive tinkerer, problem-solver · Tree Frog
Coco is the village inventor — a bright green tree frog who spends his days tinkering with wild contraptions in his workshop. His ideas don't always work on the first try, but his boundless energy and never-give-up spirit make every attempt an adventure. When he's not bouncing between projects, you'll find him helping friends with his latest creation.

Rain's Beauty
Look closely! Raindrops jewel the broad leaves. Puddles bloom with ripple-rings. Water streams off the tin roof like a silver waterfall. A tiny spider web sparkles with crystal drops. Every corner of Veguitas is being washed fresh and new.

Cozy and Safe
Under the shelter, Tía Paloma pours warm coffee for Lila. At the store, Ñico and Ramón stand side by side in comfortable quiet, watching the rain together. Everyone is safe. Everyone is peaceful. The rain drums its song, and the village listens.

The Light Returns
Slowly, gently, the rain softens. The clouds begin to break apart. Golden light peeks through! The downpour becomes a sprinkle, then stops. Characters step out from their shelters. The village glistens like someone polished it with a cloth. Everything looks fresh and new!

Touching the Freshness
Ñico steps right into a puddle — splash! — and smiles at the cool water. Lila lands on a flower and shakes it, sending droplets flying like diamonds. The fresh air smells like rain and earth and growing things. It feels so good to be outside again!

The Rainbow Promise
And then — a rainbow! A beautiful arc of colors stretches across the clearing sky. Ñico, Ramón, Lila, and Tía Paloma all stand together, looking up. The dry season has ended. The wet season has begun. The village is grateful. The village is home. The village is together.
